Dream Club – Ping G20 Hybrid

I hit the Ping G20 Hybrid recently. From the first sight, I like this hybrid, and after the first hit, I fell in love with it. This is my dream club. Ping G20 Hybrid delivers a great feel and is extremely forgiving with almost no sacrifice of distance and accuracy. Designed for controllable distance from any lie on the course, the offset hosel design helps the G20 hybrids create the high launch and low spin that improve your accuracy. The beautiful appearance of Ping G20 Hybrid attracted me as it shows in the market. Its exceptional ground impact ensures a smooth transition through the grass that was assured by adding bounce and increasing sole camber both front to back and heel to toe and the Ping G20 Hybrid’s square setup and a neutral head rotation help bring the clubface straight on impact for shots that find their marks, even from challenging lies.

Ping G15 hybrid was the best driving iron style hybrid in the market so many golfers were intrigued to how the G20 version had been improved. Now the G15 was a little visually challenged and despite its great performance it looked a bit toe heavy at address. Thankfully the Ping G20 Hybrid looks much better and the shallow face and lower crown give you a much more balanced impression at address. The shorter head looks more compact generally and this will appeal to more golfers. What will also appeal is the performance which was excellent from both the fairway and the rough. The feel was very good and the penetrating trajectory was higher than an iron but lower than more wood style hybrids. Many players will argue that the introduction of a hybrid in favor of a long iron has changed their game beyond all recognition, and this new Ping G20 hybrid will certainly appeal to those who struggle for consistency with their three and 4-iron.

Best G15 Hybrid

Looks: In keeping with the distinction between the Ping G15 and Ping i15 series, the two new hybrids are markedly different, in terms of both performance and appearance. Given the evolution of hybrid design in recent years, at first glance the Ping g15 hybrid doesn’t even look like a utility club, bearing more resemblance to a driving iron. It looks long in the face and has very little in the way of bulge or roll. But this is all to the players’ advantage because the resistance to twisting at impact has been improved by 50%.

Off the tee was more of the same. In my first outing or two with it, everything off the tee went left with either a solid draw or a borderline hook. I attributed this to not being accustomed to the offset, but once I became a little more familiar with the Ping g15 hybrid and made a few adjustments, it was as straight as can be. On the flip side, though I like to play a fade, (and am much more consistent with it than I am with a draw) I really couldn't get the ball to move to the right at all with the Ping g15 hybrid.

Stability and forgiveness are increased by using a large toe pad to provide the Ping G15 hybrid with a much more iron like weight distribution that helps to significantly increase the MOI of the Ping g15 hybrid compared to the G10. Ping has also removed almost all the bulge and roll from the Ping g15 hybrid head to give that iron like feel and look at address. The design also helps to increase accuracy of the Ping g15 hybrid and reduces dispersion on hits across the entire clubface. The Ping G15 hybrid comes with a choice of TFC 149H or Aldilo Serrano 85 Hybrid shafts.

G15 Hybrid Performance

The design and shape of the head also seems to help when hitting shots from the rough. The Ping g15 hybrid seems to cut through the longer grass brilliantly, and really gets the golf ball away well from some difficult lies.
On top of all that, the power of the Ping g15 hybrid is also pretty good. Despite the ball flight of shots often always being a bit on the high side, the carry observed wa s actually quite impressive.
This Ping g15 hybrid would be a very good golf club to have in your bag if you were facing down a longer par 3 of over 200 yards or so, provided you don't have a massive wind against.

There really isn't anything negative to say about the performance of this Ping Hybrid, although may have to get past the looks and design initially. The Ping g15 hybrid is everything that a Hybrid golf club is meant to be, powerful, reliable and extremely easy to hit.
To be completely honest, I wasn't very comfortable with the long iron replacement at first. Luckily, first impressions don't equate to the lasting opinion, and this Ping g15 hybrid is proof of that. At address, what seems like a large amount of offset - if you'll pardon the pun - really threw me off. The irons I play have a very minimal amount of offset, and going from one extreme to the other took a little bit of getting used to.
The other problem I had was the stock rubber grip, which was a little too small. Still, this is such a minor issue; it's really barely worth mentioning. After having the grip swapped for a midsize New Decade Multi-Compound, my experience was considerably better. I'm not sure if it was a mental thing or not, but in my mind, it reinforces how important of a role the comfort of the hands play in the golf swing. As a side note, the red and black New Decade Multi-Compound was a great match for this Ping g15 hybrid.

PING has three stock shafts available for the Ping g15 hybrid; their own AWT steel, the TFC149H, and the Aldila Serrano 85 Hybrid. I tested the 20° model with a stiff Aldila Serrano. As I previously mentioned, after a few rounds, I decided to ditch the stock rubber ID8 grip in favor of the New Decade Multi-Compound. Of course these grips, as well as a wide variety of other custom options, are available from PING. 

G15 Hybrid Pros And Cons

The Ping G15 Hybrid is made for hitting the golf ball higher. It is designed to be super forgiving and give the golfer an alternative to the long and mid irons. This Ping G15 Hybrid is made with a very large internal toe pad that helps to expand the perimeter weighting. This makes is more forgiving than other hybrid clubs that Ping has introduced on the market. The hosel is designed to put the center of gravity closer to the face to help reduce the spin and increase the launch angle.

OUR TESTERS SAY ABOUT PING G15 HYBRID
PROS: Higher-handicappers who typically slice should like the Ping G15 Hybrid because its offset gives the face more time to close; many testers comment that these are straight-shooters; repeatable, high ball flight due to significant sole weighting and offset; head-heavy feel during the swing fosters a smooth tempo; stable sensation through impact; the Ping G15 Hybrid produces good shots from challenging lies— it gouges the ball out of thick grass.

CONS: The aesthetics are a big drawback—the extreme offset, long face and top line make it difficult to get comfortable with the PingG15 Hybrid at address; a few panelists experience harsh feel on poor contact, and find that it isn't quite as directionally forgiving as you'd expect.

I demoed the Ping G15 Hybrid 20 degree with the stiff the shaft. I hit long and strait from the get go. I love the look and feel of the club at address. I have an old cheap 17 degree driving iron that I use to crush until I reshafted the Ping G15 Hybrid. The g15 had the same look and feel. I don't even carry any fairway woods or hybrids in my bag, just that old driving iron. Now the next time I play I will have a new club in my bag, the Ping G15 Hybrid stiff THC graphite hybrid! 20 degree of course with plans to get more! I plan to take this club into the 80's consistently! 

I also love my Ping G15 Hybrid 20 degree hybrid. I bought it last fall to replace my 3 iron. The club makes a great difference for me. I have hit some phenomenal shots with it - it is just sweet how softly the ball lands. Last week, I hit the ball to about 4 feet from the pin out of the rough from 200 yards out... I don't think I could have made it with another club.
